Seedling Program

Sierra SWCD - Your local leaders in natural resources.

The Sierra District conducts an annual tree and shrub seedling program as plantings for windbreaks. . Seedlings offered are not to be used for ornamental use, but must be used for windbreaks or erosion control.

Orders must be for a minimum of ten seedlings, with no fewer than five seedlings per species.

Seedlings are offered for orders during the month of January each year and are usually picked up in April when the seedlings are available for planting.

Seedlings offered for 2006 are anticipated to be as follows:

BAREROOT SEEDLINGS ARE: Shrubs: Native Plum, Skunkbush Sumac, New Mexico Forestiera, Nanking Cherry, Golden Current, Lilac; Shade trees: Black Locust, Arizona Ash.  4" CONTAINERIZED SEEDLINGS ARE: Groundcover: Pink Evening Primrose, Purple Ice Plants,, Purple Heart, Creeping Germander; SMALL CONTAINERIZED SEEDLINGS ARE: Shrubs: Fernbush, Apache Plume, Trees: Afghan Pine, Desert Willow, Arizona Cypress, Rio Grande Cottonwood, New Mexico Locust, ONE GALLON CONTAINER SEEDLINGS ARE: Shrubs: Butterfly Bush, Honeysuckle, Vinca Major, Texas Sage, Spanish Broom, Lavendar

Costs are to be determined in the fall of 2005.

To Place an Order please call the Sierra SWCD office at 894-2212 after January 2005 or complete the attached order form and submit to the office prior to the order deadline.
